The Honorable Sharon P. Scott, MPA

 

Sharon P. Scott is a dedicated public servant, accomplished business leader, and passionate advocate for community empowerment. For over 20 years, she served as a Newport News City Councilwoman, representing the North District with a commitment to transparency, civic engagement, and strategic development. Her leadership fostered unity under the "One City" vision, driving progress through collaborative initiatives and consistent community outreach, including her long-standing monthly Town Hall Meetings.

Beyond public office, Sharon is the President of SPS Professionals, Inc., a minority-owned business offering consulting, writing, tax accounting, and professional development services. Her expertise spans fundraising, event planning, public messaging, and board leadership.

A lifelong learner, she holds a Master of Public Administration (University of Phoenix), a BA in English (Christopher Newport University), and an AS in Education (Paul D. Camp Community College). Her civic leadership extends to regional and national roles, including chairing the Newport News/Williamsburg Airport Commission and serving on the National League of Cities’ Economic Development Committee.

Honored with awards such as the Daily Press Open Door Award, American Legion Community Leadership Award, and YWCA Women of Distinction, Sharon remains deeply engaged in public service. She enjoys travel, writing, fitness, and active participation in her faith community.
